Social Skills Training

At The CARE Centre Australia, our Social Skills Training programmes are designed to improve social interactions, emotional regulation, and communication skills for individuals with disabilities. We offer a variety of specialised programmes tailored to different age groups and needs, teaching practical life skills such as navigating social settings, making and keeping friends, teamwork, and problem-solving. Additional activities like outings to supermarkets and restaurants, cooking skills, money handling, and nutrition education provide practical experiences to enhance social competence. Through structured and engaging activities, we help participants develop the social skills necessary for successful interactions and relationships in various settings.

Social Skills Training is an instructional approach planned to advance the acquisition and performance of social skills. It has three primary purposes: promoting skill acquisition, enhancing existing skills, and facilitating the generalisation of skills across settings and persons.

Social Skills Training programmes implemented early in life teach necessary social skills, reducing subsequent social dysfunction. Social skills encompass both verbal and non-verbal behaviours, such as using greetings, conversation strategies, imitation, sharing, making eye contact, initiating play, asking for help, requesting things, and giving and acknowledging compliments.

Key Social Skills Taught

Our Social Skills Training focus on teaching key social skills, such as how to:

  • Greet and interact with peers
  • Share and take turns
  • Imitate and follow social cues
  • Ask for help and offer assistance
  • Engage in and respond to conversations

At The CARE Centre Australia, we recognise that many individuals with disabilities are eager to take on tasks and learn the skills necessary to become more independent. We are here to support you in reaching your goals, whether you’re looking to learn new independent living skills or achieve something else. We know that everyone’s definition of success is different, and we will support you in achieving whatever goal you set.
